The co-creation process

Let's imagine the city of tomorrow together

The Jardin des Nations will open an exciting period of transitional urban planning to collaboratively prepare for the future transformation of this space. This site will also serve as a platform for dialogue between citizens and urban development stakeholders to build the city of tomorrow, to experience one’s district, city, consumption, mobility, and nature in new ways.

The Jardin des Nations will be an incubator for tangible ideas and a nursery for collective intelligence, establishing a culture of trust and renewing the practice of urban planning by defining new uses to be implemented across our cities and villages.

How can we do better together?

The Jardin des Nations aims to be a remarkable resource that will enable the opportunity to grow the city differently—a city that is more pleasant, sustainable, eco-friendly, and safer. After a period disrupted by COVID, we need a breath of fresh air, a time for reflection and exchange to outline a new living framework and new practices.

To experience our territory, city, village, streets, gardens, culture, products, mobility, eco-responsibility, others, and their ideas differently, let’s think and act together. Geneva could thus reconcile its different aspects and envision the future of its territory as an open-air laboratory, in a demanding environment where the individual has the final say.

Before the solidification of a project that will be built through complete co-creation, we are convinced that through the creative, cultural, and social effervescence of this unique new place in Geneva, we can create lasting ties to transition from planned urbanism to an urbanism that is more contextual, sustainable, forward-looking, and above all, shared.

A decisive first step

The future of the Jardin des Nations at Grand Morillon is gradually taking shape through various workshops for exchange and dialogue with urban planning professionals, relevant associations, the landowner (Seraina Investment Foundation), neighbors, and the general public. A decisive step occurred on November 10, 2021, at the Garden with the public presentation of the initial intentions resulting from the discussions of the first six workshops held since the end of August.

A second step has been crossed

Following the initial six co-creation workshops and the public presentation in November 2021, the dialogue concerning the future of the Jardin des Nations continued throughout the year, with a decisive step occurring in the fall of 2022.

Three young urban planning firms from Geneva, Lausanne, and Zurich were selected to further explore the masterplan. The goal was to find the best approach to address all the challenges and constraints of the site while achieving the best possible project.
